HACCP is being recognized as the most efficient way to ensure the safety of food products. This course follows the classic approach to Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and covers the scientific basis and methodology of HACCP.

The Medical Terminology course provides an introduction to the professional language used by those who are directly and indirectly involved with the art of healing. The program will also introduce those not currently involved in the health care environment with an introduction to the language of medicine. In addition, the program will provide participants with the basics of human anatomy and physiology.

This program is designed for individuals who may be exposed to blood and body fluids or items contaminated with blood during the performance of their work and who wish to gain a basic understanding of blood-borne pathogens.

This module introduces participants to veins, arteries and nerves found in the cubital fossa, lower forearm and hand.

The anatomical structure of veins is discussed in relation to nerves and arteries that may be inadvertently punctured or otherwise damaged during blood collection.

Collection of the blood sample is actually one of the last steps in the process of the client interaction. A number of steps are required in the venipuncture procedure before you ‘stick’ the client to collect a blood sample. Client approach, positioning, identification, consent and dietary requirement verification are necessary before you attempt venipuncture.

Following application of a tourniquet to slow blood leaving the arm, palpation is used to locate and assess veins to select one suitable for venipuncture.

A variety of equipment and supplies are available to collect venous blood samples. This module introduces participants to equipment and supplies that may be required for the evacuated tube system and aspiration systems (e.g. syringe-draw).

Blood collection must be performed in a manner that will not result in harm to the patient or the phlebotomist, nor affect the integrity of the sample and accuracy of test results. This module introduces participants to venipuncture using the evacuated tube system and the syringe system, using both conventional needles and winged infusion sets.
